I read an article on One American News Network today talking about how a private company had to get permission from the US government to fly an unmanned robot to the moon. The 1967 space treaty sets forth “space law”, but is this really binding on a constitutional republic where the public had very little input? Does any government on earth have the right to extend their idea of law beyond the boundaries of this planet? I know we have the FAA to make sure the skies are not full of accidents waiting to happen and are the governing body for flight in the Untied states, but can that be extended into outer space?
I think we have enough to worry about here on good old planet earth, without extending our influence into outer space. If a wise cracking entrepreneur wants to fly anywhere into out space, the only responsibility they have is to let the governing authority’s know they are filing a flight plan and when the flight is taking place, and be held accountable if something goes wrong!!!
